Career Guidance
Young people face more options than ever before in education, training and employment.  At St Bernadette we aim to provide high quality career education and guidance to enable them to make choices wisely, achieve their potential and put their talents to good use throughout their careers.  We continually look for ways to strengthen and extend our links with training providers and local businesses.  Our careers programme aims to help individuals to succeed and to achieve their broader aims by raising their aspirations and equipping them with the skills and knowledge necessary for the future.  We have various enrichment events and workshops that take place throughout the academic year for all students. Donna Portingale from Rebuild Support Independent Careers Service is in school every Wednesday to give advice and guidance to students on an individual basis or group-work.

St Bernadette has been awarded The Employability Chartermark.  This award is given to education institutions in recognition of their commitment to Career Education, information, Advice and Guidance (CEIAG) ensuring our students are work ready. To do this we will make sure that our students have access to information about their future career choices – what is available and how to access them.  As well as having the opportunity to see Donna from Rebuild Support, students will also receive additional help in the form of:

  • Option choices in Years 8 & 9
  • Which college course to apply for
  • Help with college application forms
  • Help with National Apprenticeship application forms
  • Career workshops
  • Career presentations
  • CV writing and interview tips
  • Lunch-time career work shops
  • Mock Interviews with real business people
  • Work Experience
  • Career Fairs and Apprenticeship fairs
  • Visits to colleges/universities
