GCSE Combined Science
Curriculum Overview
The overarching aim in the pursuit of scientific competency is to prepare students to be active citizens in the wider world in terms of critical engagement with their environment.
Our intent is for all students to develop a curiosity and a scientific understanding of the world around them and the ability to think critically about information presented to them.
We want them to be aware of the role of science and technology in the modern world and that our understanding nowadays is built on the research carried out by Scientists from many different cultures and civilizations throughout history.
How will I be assessed?
In Year 10, students complete one end of topic test per topic. They are assigned an approximate GCSE grade based on approximate grade boundaries.
Students complete one assessed exam question per topic. This is an extended written question which is marked but not graded. Students also complete an end of year 10 mock exam in June/July.
In Year 11, students complete mock examinations in November and February. Usually they will complete a full set of paper 1 papers in November, and paper 2 papers in February.
Students complete 6 terminal exams at the end of Year 11 (2 Biology, 2 Chemistry and 2 Physics). The results of these determine their final overall grades in Combined Science.
