Illness and Accidents at School
We have up to five trained First Aiders on site at any one time but parents should be aware that our staff are trained to deal with basic First Aid matters only.
In serious cases of illness we often have to send for parents so that a child may be taken home. Should a serious accident happen whilst in school, we would have no hesitation in sending a child to hospital and alerting parents as soon as possible. For this reason, it is vital that we have emergency telephone numbers for such situations.
We are fortunate in having access to a school nurse. Her main function is to monitor the growth and development of our students. However, the nurse is not based on the school premises and children who are ill, or who may require treatment, should not be sent to school.
Administration of Medicines
When medicines are required to be taken in school, our health and safety procedures requires the completion by the parent/carer of a form for self administration of medication. Contact the school office for copies. All medicines must be labelled as prescribed by the pharmacist in the original containers.
Vaccinations
NHS guidelines recommend that children aged 14 should have a three in one teenage booster containing vaccines against diphtheria, tetanus and polio. Please click here for more information.
