Curriculum Overview

Design and Technology looks to enable a new generation of pupils that can use creativity and imagination to problem solve for a more sustainable future. Pupils learn how to take risks, becoming resourceful, innovative, enterprising and capable citizens. Through the evaluation of past and present design and technology, they develop a critical understanding of its impact on daily life and the wider world.

In Years 7 and 8, students experience a variety of material areas; Food and Nutrition, Graphics, Product Design and Textiles. Over a 9 week period, students carousel between each area. They will complete a range of different projects, through the design process of researching, designing, making and evaluating.

In Year 9, students choose which technology they would like to study in more depth and subsequently remain in that subject for the entire year.

How will I be assessed?

Students are assessed on both theory and practical ability of equal weighting. Students will be assessed using the schools St Bernadette 1-6 based grading system.

Progress will be tracked through the year using practical logs, key vocabulary spelling tests, assessment criteria, verbal feedback and formal assessment at the end of each rotation.
