At St Bernadette’s we aim for each pupil to fulfil their potential.  In order to achieve this aim teachers have to plan and deliver suitable and stimulating lessons and pupils must ensure they make the most of every learning opportunity.  This also means that pupils must behave in a way which helps their learning and that of fellow pupils.  The expectations of pupils are set out in the Learning Code and these set the framework for our behaviour system Behaviour for Learning. Click here for the Learning Code.

Rewards such as talents, certificates, praise postcards and commendations will be given by tutors, teachers, and achievement coordinators on a regular basis to reward excellent effort, behaviour or outstanding improvement in one of these areas.  This communicates to all pupils the emphasis we place on these qualities and their benefit in achieving the best results for all our pupils.

If a pupil is choosing to disrupt their own learning or that of other pupils this is not a firm foundation for effective learning.  We have a tiered system that aims to address these issues and tries to prevent them escalating.  To help pupils, parents and staff distinguish the severity of the behaviour the pupil has exhibited and the appropriate sanctions we have a system of C1 to C5.  C1 is an official warning by the teacher that continuation of the behaviour will result in a punishment of an appropriate level. C5 is the most serious behaviour where a pupil has to be removed from the classroom so everyone else can continue with their learning.
