‘St Bernadette’s Students Celebrate Exam Results’
Tense faces turned to smiles of joy as students opened their GCSE results at St Bernadette Catholic Secondary School.
Students, parents and staff at St Bernadette’s are celebrating strong results for individual students and across a range of GCSE subjects. Amongst the highest achievers gaining multiple A*/A or equivalent grades are Lemia Leonicio, Ellie Nelson, Francesco Andes, Ana Alonso, Therese Briones and Laura Eremionkhale.
With the introduction of tougher exams and a new grading system in English and Maths anxieties were heightened and the joy all the greater for Ellie Nelson, Francesco Andes, Shanel Drewe and Lara Lindsay who obtained grade 9s. This is the highest grade possible, higher than A* and only awarded to a small percentage of students nationally.
75% of students achieved at least a new grade 4 in English or Maths and 35% achieved at least the new grade 5 in both English and Maths. One in five students achieved a grade 7 or higher (equivalent to A*/A) in English or Maths.
This year has seen an increase in the number of top grades achieved by St Bernadette’s students. Results in core subjects such as Biology, Chemistry and Physics were strong and students following vocational subjects such as Business, ICT and Food also did particularly well.
Headteacher Basia McLaughlin said, “We are very proud of the achievements of our students and are delighted to be celebrating their success with them. At a time of change and some uncertainty, it is reassuring to know that St Bernadette’s students continue to be ambitious and work hard to achieve their goals.”
